Valentine’s Day Messages: That Four Letter Word

Are you in sync with your loved one?

valentines day messages[dropcaps]F[/dropcaps]or many, it’s a ceremonious obligation each year. For others it’s an opportunity to confess one’s deepest feelings. And still, for a handful, it’s a special time to express one’s sincere affections to his or her significant other. Whatever one’s view point of the infamous holiday known as Valentine’s Day may be, come February 14, the candy hearts that overflow the shelves on the supermarket and the advertisements for the biggest deals on flower bouquets are unavoidable, even for the social recluse. This day is rooted in the Roman holiday known as Lupercalia and named after a Christian martyr dating back to the 5th century. Regardless of its religious roots and beyond just a single day out of the year, this four letter word universally ties all people together and transcends all boundaries of religion, culture and background. As the Beatles would say “All you need is LOVE” but let’s hear how others have harmonized to that melody to make sure we are in sync with our loved ones.

L ooks to the needs of others

It is easy to get caught up in what you want and expect from the other person but make sure put into consideration the needs and desires of others not just your own.

“We have observed that, in society and the world in which we live, selfishness has increased more than love for others, and that men of good will must work, each with his own strengths and expertise, to ensure that love for others increases until it is equal and possibly exceeds love for oneself.”

-Pope Francis

O vercomes all things

Whatever obstacles may come your way or how impossible a situation may seem, your greatest weapon is love.

“Love is the strongest force the world possesses, and yet it is the humblest imaginable.”

-Gandhi

V alues the individual first

Give yourself credit where it is due and cut yourself some slack. You really cannot love anyone else if you do not even love yourself.

“You can search throughout the entire universe for someone who is more deserving of your love and affection than you are yourself, and that person is not to be found anywhere. You yourself, as much as anybody in the entire universe deserve your love and affection.”

-Buddha

E ssential for all people

Everyone needs it. Everyone wants it. You really cannot deny it. To be loved by another person and for another person to love you. It really is the universal language.

“Even the rich are hungry for love, for being cared for, for being wanted, for having someone to call their own.”

-Mother Teresa
